We have been throwing holiday parties for many, many years. And, although our recipes, our time constraints and our budgets have all changed quite a bit over the years, our basic organization method has not.

We have learned that organizing a gathering breaks down into four basic areas:

  • the menu
  • timing the food
  • the guest list
  • the to dos

Plan Your Way Through The HolidaysAnd so, given that Sarah is a list maker, in the weeks leading up to the party, she will have a spread in her notebook that looks like this:

 

Plan Your Way Through The HolidaysAnd then, in the final week or so, she will create an 11×17 planner sheet that is kept on the refrigerator door. It never ceases to bring curious comments from the guests (because, as you know, everyone always ends up in the kitchen). And it brings her peace of mind to know that she doesn’t have to keep it all in her head.

Added bonus: It’s a terrific excuse to break out the seasonal washi and/or stamps, if you are so inclined.
