A Sticky Situation

Today’s featured card is the Merry Christmas card. For those of you who are new here, we are spending the month exploring all the wonderful ways to use the Watercolor Winter Simply Created Card Kit. (You can check out our first post about this kit on Tuesday’s post. It covers some helpful tips and tricks for working with watercolor.)

We love the simplicity of this card. The photo above really doesn’t capture the texture of the woodgrain on the white, but you can see it a little more clearly in the details below.

Today we want to talk adhesives. There are a ton of different kinds of glues out there and it can get really confusing knowing which to use when, but here are our tips for working with adhesives and this kit.

Tip #1: We found that Tombow was our BFF for this kit. It adheres well and gave us some time to work with the pieces before it set.

Tip #2: Adhering the translucent snowflakes can be tricky because most glues show through. But we found our best options were to either (a) layer pieces over the snowflake, thereby covering the adhesive mark, or (b) use glue dots under the circles on the outer edges of the snowflake, thusly:

Tip #3: You know, gluing those sequins can be tricky, because they tend to be static-y and don’t want to let go of our fingers. So we found that using a toothpick through the central hole of the sequin helped us place the sequins. We used a second toothpick to help slide the sequin off the first toothpick and onto the card.

Tip #4: The bows can also be a challenge to get in place. The kit recommends tying the string around the card and into a bow, but this can make it hard to get the bow in the proper place. So we tied the bow around something else (like a small can or an extra piece of chipboard) and then cutting the resulting loop, so the bow is now in the center of the string. Then, you can place the bow where you want it and bring the ends around the matte and adhere.

Happy Crafting!
