What Kind of Planner Are You?

Planner Featured

There are many ways to keep ourselves organized, especially in the technologically advanced world we live in, but sometimes a pencil and paper are really all we need. And they can even help us to be more productive. In the last year and a half, I have become more productive using my old friends, Pen and Paper, (welllllll…… actually a lot of different pens, several pencils and of course, a little glittery sparkle…). But my point is, I have experienced a kind of reawakening to the analog way of planning. There has been a resurgence of planners out on the market in the last year especially and many of us creatives like to make them pretty, fun or more conducive to our creativity.

There are many companies that have established planners like Filofax and Franklin Covey and many creative companies have joined right in. Heidi Swapp’s Personal Planner, the MAMBI Create 365 line, Simple Stories’ Carpe Diem line and Erin Condren’s Life Planner are all great examples of this.

Here at FK we have been planning for planners for awhile now and are developing our own line of planners, stickers and stamps to help us stay more organized. (Be sure to sign up for our newsletter in the right sidebar so you don’t miss out on their releases!)

As we’ve been developing our planner line, we’ve done tons of research to find what works for us and we’ve discovered so many different solutions for different kinds of planner people, we just had to share them with you.

Detail Planners like to know what is happening immediately. These down-to-the minute planners want to see their whole day laid out in front of them. Although they don’t get the bigger picture, like the Hybrid and Big Picture Planners, they have the advantage of knowing exactly what’s happening, including, for example, meal planning, errands, pick up times, hydration and exercise planning, and so forth.

Hybrid Planners like a little detail, without sacrificing the big picture. Rachel likes to do meal planning in this type of a planner. It helps her prepare for the week ahead and levels out the stress of what she has to cook each evening. This kind of planning has the advantage of providing a broader picture of the week and can help alleviate stress, as it can provide more information about upcoming meals, appointments and events.
Monthly Planner Monthly planning
Planners like to see how today fits in with what came before and will come after.     These planners can do all of the above mentioned tracking and planning, but not in as much detail. It is smaller, but a month view can help with keeping family appointments in order. You don’t want to forget a pick up or drop off!
 Listers gonna list. Listers
Listers gonna list! These scrappy planners find joy in checking off little boxes. Here at Finders Keepers we strive to make our days as productive as possible and one of the ways to do this is to make lists. Sarah is the queen of lists and Rach the queen of making pretty lists. It really is a great partnership. Lists don’t have dates, though, so scheduling can be challenging, unless you keep additional planners as well.
 Bullet Journal Collection Bullet Journaling
Bullet Planners are a lot like Listers, but they add a system of organization that was originally created by Ryder Carroll. Rach started with this type of planning about two years ago and found that she really got so much more accomplished throughout her days when she used this approach. One of the main components is a book, such as Moleskin, Lechturum or the Midori Travelers Notebooks; and a pen or pencil. BuJo Planners really can customize their journals to meet their needs. Be sure to check out our Pinterest board for some brilliant ideas and layouts for your bullet journals.
